Spirituality

What Is Spirituality?
Spirituality means different things to different people but es- sentially it relates to being integrated with the consciousness, experience, self-awareness, relating to others and the world. One befitting definition of spirituality is experiencing whole-
ness and interconnectedness directly, seeing that individuality and the totality are interwoven, that nothing is separate or extraneous.’

Spiritual intelligence, an abandoned dimension of spiritual education, has emerged as a recognised meta-skill to foster
learning how to learn by developing the wisdom of high order known as sagacity, which is drawing greater attention from
disenchanted children, parents, academics and even scientists. Embracing spirituality facilitates self-awareness to “becoming more human” and self-experiential in nature. A broader definition of spirituality – it is an inter-disciplinary field and a universal human experience —something that touches us all in the way the child relates to nature, the environment and other animate and inanimate things.

Spirituality exists in all of us irrespective of our faiths. It is through the invisible thread of spirituality that we are interrelated and inter-connected with each other’s divine character and strengths in the form of energy. So essentially it is the human spirit or souls opposed to material or physical things that is the essence of our existence. To scientists spirituality is the search for our communion with the sacred. It is a prominent cross-cultural value which is an irreplaceable determinant for our inseparability from the uni-
versal superconsciousness. Spirituality is a science in the One

Superconsciousness because it is consistent, never ending, systematic, unchanging and assured. It creates a feeling of joy
and reassures you that you are aligned with the divine energy. To academics spirituality is “a way of being and experiencing
that comes about through awareness of a transcendent dimension and that is characterised by certain identifiable values in
Gyanam Suvigyanam – Scientific Corroboration of Indian Knowledge System Vol.1 Issueregard to self, others, nature, life, and whatever one considers to be the ultimate. It is “one’s striving for an experience of connection with oneself, connectedness with others and nature and connectedness with the transcendent.”

Paramatma or Brahma is referred to as the ‘Absolute Omnis-cience’ (capable divine force), the Universal Mind (operating field) and the floating material bodies. eg. sun, moon, planets, galaxies, etc.) These combine as a single entity known as the
universe or the cosmos of which we are all part of.
At the micro level referring to personality (Pinde) it is consti-
tutive of the same three components which correspond to the above three forces. The material bodies are being governed by the collective operating fields that are essentially embedded with information and the laws of nature, which represent the
Universal Mind.

Changes in the cosmos affect you through circadian rhythms, which relate to your endogenous clock that influences your biological process in response to environmental stimuli. If it is disturbed which it is due to your modern lifestyles and hectic routine schedules and travelling, it may lead to Circadian rhythm sleep disorders (CRSD) and other health problems. The Vedas remind us that: ‘As long as we believe ourselves to be even the least different from God fear remains with us; but when we know ourselves to be the One, fear goes; of what can we be afraid’. ’We are not human beings having spiritual experience but spiritual beings having human experience.’
